deep learning
An effective style of machine learning that results in models that are nearly impossible to interpret.
A type of machine learning that came to prominence over the last decade with the development of faster hardware. A central feature of deep learning is that it tries to remove humans from the learning process, instead relying on detecting patterns from massive amounts of data. It is characterized by a brute-force style of learning and results in models that have particularly low interpretability, but often very high accuracy.
Deep learning has led to huge advances in tasks such as automatic machine translation, automatic text generation, facial recognition and photo generation.
